1 · The agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Matchmonster (“Matchmonster”, “we”, “us”), governing your use of matchmonster.us and the services offered on it (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you accept these terms and our privacy policy. If you are using the Service on behalf of a family member — as a parent, sibling or relative managing a profile — you accept these terms both for yourself and, with their knowledge and consent, on their behalf.
Matchmonster is a matrimonial introduction platform. It is intended solely for people seeking marriage — not casual dating, networking or commercial promotion.
2 · Eligibility
You may create or be the subject of a profile only if you are of legal marriageable age in your jurisdiction — at least 18 years. You must also be legally capable of entering into marriage — unmarried, divorced, widowed, or with an annulment or divorce concluded (profiles may state “awaiting divorce” only where that status is truthfully disclosed).
We may decline or remove any profile that does not meet these requirements, at any time, without owing anyone an explanation beyond this clause.
3 · Your account
You are responsible for your account credentials and for everything done through your account. One person (or one family, for a managed profile) per account; one account per person. Tell us promptly at the address in section 18 if you believe your account has been compromised.
Accounts follow a lifecycle: new accounts are reviewed by our advisor team before a profile can appear publicly. We may keep an account in review, or decline it, where verification cannot be completed.
4 · Truthful profiles
A matrimonial profile is a representation to other families. You agree that everything in your profile — age, marital status, education, occupation, family details, photos — is true, current and yours. Impersonation, significantly altered or misleading photos, concealed marriages, or misstated age or status are grounds for immediate removal and, where the law requires, referral to authorities.
If your circumstances change while your profile is live (including finding a match anywhere), update or pause your profile promptly.
5 · Verification
Every profile is reviewed by a human advisor before going live, and by creating a profile you consent to that call: an advisor will speak with you (or the family member managing the profile) to confirm identity, intent and accuracy. Optional higher tiers of verification (government ID sighting, family references) are offered with your separate consent each time.
Verification marks reflect our advisors' good-faith assessment at the time of the call. They are not a guarantee of any person's character, circumstances or conduct, and they cannot substitute for your own family's judgment and the enquiries families customarily make before a marriage.
6 · Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for anything other than a genuine search for marriage;
- harass, stalk, threaten or demean any member, on or off the platform;
- request or offer dowry, or condition a match on payments prohibited by law;
- scrape, harvest, screenshot-and-republish, or otherwise extract profiles or member data;
- share another member's photos, contact details or conversations outside the platform without their consent;
- solicit money from members, or promote services or products;
- create profiles for people who have not consented to be profiled; or
- probe, disrupt or circumvent the Service's security or privacy controls.
We may investigate suspected violations and take any proportionate action, from a warning to permanent removal.
7 · Privacy & the vault
Privacy is the heart of this Service. Personal details you place in your vault (contact information, exact date of birth, family contacts, private photos) are shared only through the reveal mechanics described in Privacy & trust and the privacy policy: a mutual match, the owner's standing consent, and revocability. When another member reveals their contact card to you, you receive it in trust — for the purpose of a matrimonial conversation and nothing else. Misusing revealed details (spam, harassment, sharing onward) is a serious violation of these terms.
8 · Credits & payments
Core features — creating a profile, verification, browsing, compatibility reports, expressing and accepting interest, chatting after a mutual match — are free. A small set of premium actions (contact reveals, profile boosts, matchmaker introductions) is metered in credits, purchasable in packs or plans at the prices shown at checkout. Payments are processed by our payment partner, Stripe; we do not store your card details.
Credits are a prepaid license to use premium features. They are not money, carry no cash value, and cannot be transferred between accounts. Spending a credit on a reveal grants the reveal only where its conditions (section 7) are met — a reveal blocked because the owner has not consented, or has revoked consent, is not charged.
As the Service evolves, we may change prices, the credit cost of premium actions, and which features are free or premium. Changes apply prospectively: the price shown at checkout is the price you pay, credits you have already purchased keep their validity, and actions already completed are never re-priced.
9 · Refunds
A payment charged in error, or a credit deducted for an action that failed to deliver (for example, a reveal debited without the contact card being provided), will be re-credited or refunded — write to us at the address in section 18 within 30 days. Beyond that, purchased credits are non-refundable once spent; unspent credits are refundable within 14 days of purchase if you have spent none of that purchase. If we terminate your account for violating these terms, remaining credits are forfeit. Nothing in this section limits rights you have under applicable consumer law.
10 · Matchmakers
Professional matchmakers on Matchmonster are independent practitioners, not our employees or agents. We verify their identity and practice through the same advisor process as members, and we track introductions and consultations on-platform, but the professional relationship — its advice, outcomes and any fees stated on a storefront — is between the matchmaker and your family. Matchmakers additionally agree to represent only families who have consented to be represented, and to honor the platform's privacy rules with any member data they handle.
11 · Your content
You own what you post — your profile, photos and messages. You grant us a limited, revocable license to host, display and process that content solely to operate the Service (including showing your public profile to other members according to your visibility settings, and our advisors reviewing it for verification). We never use your content for advertising, and deleting your account ends this license except where the law requires brief retention (section 10 of the privacy policy).
12 · Termination
You can pause your profile or delete your account at any time from your settings — deletion removes your profile, vault and photos as described in the privacy policy. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, put other members at risk, or where required by law. Where practical and lawful, we will tell you why.
13 · Disclaimers
We provide the Service with care, but “as is”: we do not guarantee that you will find a match, that any profile is accurate beyond our good-faith verification, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Marriage decisions are yours and your family's; make them the way careful families always have — by meeting, asking, and verifying independently. Compatibility scores are an aid to conversation, not a prediction of a marriage's success.
The Service itself will keep evolving: we may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time — and, with reasonable notice, the Service as a whole. If we ever discontinue the Service entirely, unspent purchased credits will be refunded.
14 · Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claims arising out of the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for the acts of members, matchmakers or third parties. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for fraud, or for rights granted by consumer protection law in your jurisdiction.
15 · Assignment & general
You may not assign or transfer these terms. We may assign them — together with your account and data, under these same terms and the privacy policy — to a successor in connection with a reorganization, sale, or transfer of the Service; we will tell you before any such transfer takes effect. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest remains in force, and our not enforcing a clause on one occasion is not a waiver of it. These terms and the privacy policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
16 · Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware and subject to the state and federal courts located there. Mandatory consumer protections of the place you live remain unaffected.
17 · Changes
We may update these terms as the Service evolves. For material changes we will give notice — on the site or by email — before they take effect, and the “last updated” date above always tells you the current version. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
18 · Contact
